At a distance of 6 km from Kadamba Bus Stand, 28 km from Vasco Da Gama Railway Station and 20 km from Mapusa, St. Michael's Church is situated in Panaji, North Goa.
The Church of St Michael the Archangel is one of the oldest churches in Goa which was built by the Dominicans in 1544. It is also said that the Dominicans resided at the parish only in the year 1548. In the year 1776, the church was handed over to the Diocesan Clergy. It is also the only church in the town serving one of the largest parishes in Goa.
The Chapel of Blessed Sacrament was annexed in 2006 during the tenure of Fr. Carmo Martins. The Parish has a mixed population with lot of settlers from other parts of Goa and especially on the Dona Paula Plateau as well as on the main land.
The Taleigao parish celebrates the harvest feast with pomp on 21 August, and the feast of the patron on the nearest Sunday on or after 29 September. The harvest feast dates back to the Portuguese Regime and is an integral part of the history of the church. This originated in the year 1510, when the troops were starving for food after being defeated by Ismail Adil Shah the Muslim King of Bijapur Empire. Ever since then, the first sheaves of grain are ceremoniously cut in Taleigao at the yearly Harvest Festival on August 21.
