At a distance of 30 km from Panjim Kadamba Bus Stand, 17 km from Mapusa and 15 km from Arambol beach, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is situated in Parnem Taluka of North Goa.
The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church was the first church in the whole Pernem Taluka, at the time this area was under the rule of Portuguese. This church has kept the flame of Christianity burning bright. Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Nossa Senhora do Carmo) is a catholic church dedicated to Virgin Mary. This white washed church located close to the Arambol beach holds a lot of religious significance amongst locals as well as tourists.
The church was built in 1780 and initially dedicated to St John the Baptist. The church was reconstructed in 1841 and then dedicated to Our Lady of the Mount Carmel. A part of the frontispiece was reconstructed and the church was repaired in 1878. In the year 2000, the church building was enlarged and a new parochial house was built.
The feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrated with great pomp and festivity on the second Sunday of January. This feast draws large number of people from all over Goa.
