Our Lady of the Poor Church is located in Nuvem Village. It is also known as Igreja Mae dos Pobres (Mother of the Poor Church) or The Holy Family Church. The main altar of the church is actually dedicated to Jesus, Mary and Joseph in 1695. It was affiliated to the parish of the Holy Spirit Church, Margao. Nuvem became a separate parish in 1903.
The Church was built in Neo-Roman-Mannerist architecture. It is the only heritage structure in the village of Nuvem has been plunged into a bitter row over an alleged proposal for its demolition for a bigger church.
The Mother of the Poor Church feast is celebrated by the villagers on the first Sunday of November. The statue of Mae Dos Pobres being taken in a procession at Jesus and Mary Church on the occasion of the feast which was celebrated with pomp and gaiety.
The feast of Mae dos Pobres brings people from the neighbouring villages to Nuvem to pray for grace and favours from Mother Mary and then roams the seemingly-unending fair in search of clothes, furniture, supplies, wares and even cattle. This particular feast is famous for cattle and pottery.
