At a distance of 29 km from Panjim Kadamba Bus Stand, 46 km from Vasco Da Gama Railway Station and 25 km from Mapusa, The Church of St. John of The Cross is situated in North Goa.
The Church of St. John of the Cross or Sao Joao da Cruz Church is located in Sanquelim. The Church dedicated to St. John of the Cross was built as a chapel in 1826 at the initiative of Archbishop Frei Manoel de S Galdino from the donations raised by the faithful and the Portuguese Government. Within a year that is in 1827, the chapel was detached from the parish of Bicholim and it was raised to the status of a parish church.
The Church has been taken care of by the Jesuits most of the part. The Church of St. John of the Cross was reconstructed two times in 1933 and in 1948. A new church building was blessed on 19th December 2004. The Church is a fairly simple looking structure but its Baroque facade is quite distinctive. The original facade was maintained and a belfry was added on the right side of the facade. The frontispiece capped by pediment and adorned by a Cristo Rei statue.
The Church feast was celebrated on 3rd Sunday of November every year.
