The Church of Our Lady of Consolation of the Persecuted is also known as Nossa Senhora Consolacao dos Perseguidos church. It is situated in Tropa. There was a chapel at Tropa in 1762 affiliated to the parish of Siolim. It was rebuilt in 1971, when Tropa was elevated to the status of a parish.
In the 16th century conquest of Goa this place was well fortified by the Portuguese with police to ward off the Bhosle attacks. The locality came to be known as Tropa meaning troops because the Portuguese Government had stationed a military force there.
The church of Tropa is dedicated to Our Lady of Consolation. The church was built in eclectic design with Neo-Gothic touches. The church has 3 storeys and pointed arches for openings in lower storeys. It contains twin turrets and a porch with rusticated columns and flat roof.
The feast of Our Lady of Consolation of the Persecuted Church was celebrated every year on 2nd Sunday of May with great pomp.
