At a distance of 7 km from Udaipur Railway Station, Sajjangarh Biological Park is a zoological garden situated on the foothills of the Sajjangarh Palace in Udaipur. It is one of the top places to visit as part of Udaipur wildlife packages.
Sajjangarh Biological Park, commonly referred to as Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, encompasses an area of 36 hectares and boasts a diverse array of wildlife. The park's development commenced in 2004-05 as part of the Rajasthan Forestry and Biodiversity Project, supported financially by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. It officially opened to the public in 2015. Notably, Sajjangarh Biological Park introduced India's inaugural Augmented Reality Application to enhance wildlife tourism and educate visitors about the local flora and fauna.
Located in Udaipur, Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary is an exemplary destination for observing a wide range of flora and fauna coexisting within a human-designed environment. The sanctuary is home to more than 21 species of animals and birds, including leopards, lions, marsh crocodiles, blackbucks, and ostriches. Visitors can encounter a variety of birds and reptiles, all housed within enclosures that are easily visible during a leisurely walk through the park.
To ensure the well-being of the animals, the sanctuary features a Zoo Hospital and a Nutrition Centre. A network of roads has been established to facilitate access to different areas of the park. Additionally, Jiyan Lake, also known as Tiger Lake or Badi Lake, supports the sanctuary's ecosystem. Constructed in 1664 by Maharana Raj Singh of the Mewar dynasty, the lake was named in honor of his mother, Jana Devi.
Guests are invited to stroll along the park's meticulously maintained trails, allowing them to enjoy the serene atmosphere while appreciating the beauty of indigenous plant species and observing various wildlife. Alternatively, visitors may choose to embark on a golf cart tour of the main routes within the zoological park or rent a bicycle for exploration.
