At a distance of 3 km from Udaipur Railway Station, Gulab Bagh is a well-maintained garden in the city of Udaipur. Also known as Sajjan Niwas Garden, it is one of the best places to visit as part of Udaipur Wildlife Tour Packages.
Spread over an area of 100 acres, Gulab Bagh is a must-visit place for the nature lovers as it is the largest garden in Udaipur. The garden is renowned for its vast array of rose varieties, which is reflected in its name, translating to 'Rose Garden.' A striking feature of Gulab Bagh is its expansive Kamal Talai, characterized by its crystal-clear blue waters adorned with pink lotuses and lush green leaves.
In addition to its floral beauty, Gulab Bagh is home to a mini zoo, located just a short stroll from the rose gardens. Established in 1878 during the reign of Maharana Sajjan Singh, the zoo is recognized as the sixth oldest in India. Initially overseen by the 'Shikarkhana' department of the former Mewar state, the management of Gulab Bagh has since transitioned to the Garden Department, while the Mini Zoo is now under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department of Rajasthan. Animals and birds of many varieties are housed in cages. There is a small toy train in the zoo that is available for both adults and kids at a very nominal charge.
The garden is meticulously maintained, featuring walking paths that attract morning walkers and tourists looking for a serene retreat from the bustling city life. Additionally, there is an Acupressure park named 'Miraj Jyotish Upvan,' developed and maintained by the Miraj Products corporate group. This park includes tethered tiles designed to enhance blood circulation and showcases a variety of Ayurvedic and non-ayurvedic plants along the acupressure pathways.
Furthermore, the garden is home to the Saraswati Library, which was originally the Victoria Hall Museum, celebrated for its remarkable collection of antiques, curios, royal artifacts, and other historical relics. One can also visit Navlakha Palace, a significant site for the Arya Samaj, which is centrally located within Gulab Bagh.
