At a distance of 19 km from Jaipur Railway Station, the Sculpture Park is an art gallery situated inside Nahargarh Fort, Jaipur. It is one of the must-include places in Jaipur leisure packages.
Established in 2017, the Sculpture Park is considered as the first Contemporary Art public space in India. It is located inside the scenic Madhavendra Palace housed within the Nahargarh Fort at Jaipur. Completed in 1892, the Madhavendra Palace was commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh, the founder of Jaipur as a royal pleasure retreat with a series of nine identical apartments for his queens which makes for perfect exhibition space.
This unique venue highlights contemporary artistic expressions and is the result of a partnership between the Government of Rajasthan and Saat Saath Arts, a non-profit organization. It marks a pioneering collaboration between state authorities and private cultural philanthropy in the realm of contemporary art. The exhibition is curated by Peter Nagy, the Director of Nature Morte Art Ltd.
The Sculpture Park at Madhavendra Palace serves as a remarkable fusion of India's rich heritage and its contemporary artistic landscape. Its objective is to transform the palace into a gallery for modern art, showcasing sculptures from leading Indian and international artists in both indoor and outdoor settings. This initiative seeks to foster the growing interest in contemporary art within the country while honoring India's cultural legacy. The curators continually refresh the sculptures and artworks, ensuring that new exhibitions meet international standards for art enthusiasts.
