At a distance of 35 km from Jaipur, Achrol Fort or Achalgarh Fort is a hidden fort in Achrol village near Jaipur. It is one of the lesser known forts in Rajasthan, and among the best places to visit as part of Jaipur Adventure Packages.
Located on Jaipur-Delhi highway, Achrol Fort and palace is actually an old Haveli or a large residential complex belongs to Achrol Thikana family who were an extended family of Kachhawa rulers of Jaipur. Not much is known about the fort, except that the fort was built by Achaldas in 1564 AD. The fort lacks any kind of residential quarters. Its location and size made the fort with its wide panoramic view, ideally for use in military and strategic purposes, while the haveli adjacent was used for residential purposes.
Because of it's near invisibility, the palace has received minimal attention and preservation efforts. Although some restoration initiatives have been undertaken for Achrol Fort and the haveli, these efforts have proven inadequate, placing both structures at risk of significant deterioration and potential safety hazards.
In addition to its historical significance, the fort is recognized as a popular destination for trekking and rappelling recently. Access to the fort is achieved by trekking from Achrol village, located at the base of the hill. However, there are no signboards to guide visitors towards the fort. The 1.6-kilometer out-and-back trail from Achrol village is generally regarded as a moderately challenging route, ideal for bird watching, hiking, and leisurely walks. The views of both sunrise and sunset from the hilltop are breathtaking, and the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape as observed from the fort is truly remarkable.
