At a distance of 5 km from Pune Junction, the Peshwe Park is a public park located near Saras Baug in Pune, India. Managed by the Pune Municipal Corporation, it is one of the must-include places in Pune Sightseeing Packages.
Peshwe Udyan, also known as the Peshwe Energy Park was inaugurated in 1953 by the Pune Municipal Corporation on the site where Madhavrao Bhat, a Peshwa of the Maratha Empire, established a private menagerie in 1770. Initially, the park operated as a zoo, showcasing animals in traditional cages. However, in 1999, all animals were relocated to the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park as it was unable to meet the guidelines of the Central Zoo Authority of India, leading to its temporary closure. Subsequently, the Pune Municipal Corporation developed an energy park aimed at promoting awareness of renewable energy sources. In 2011, the PMC introduced an Adventure Thrill theme to the park, encouraging children to engage in various physical activities.
Spanning 7 acres, the park features a picturesque environment, well-maintained lawns, and a variety of recreational options. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks on the verdant lawns with family and friends. The Peshwe Park has since been renowned as the Peshwe Adventure Park, particularly following the addition of 50 different adventure sports activities, including net climbing, rope walking, wall climbing, grappling, tower climbing, balancing, high-altitude cycling, rope sliding, and crossing a pond on a rope.
Within the park, numerous models and educational exhibits highlight the significance of renewable energy. Notable installations include a biomass pavilion, an information pavilion, a hydro-energy pavilion, a solar pavilion, and a battery-operated train named Phulrani. The Phulrani train, operational since 1956, offers visitors a scenic tour of the garden, enhancing their appreciation of the park's natural beauty.
