At a distance of 18 km from Pune Junction, the National Defence Academy, also known as NDA is an academy for Indian armed services located in Khadakwasla, Pune. It is one of the best places for history buffs as part of Pune tour.

The National Defence Academy serves as the Joint Services academy where cadets receive training for the three principal branches of the armed forces: the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force. Within this esteemed institution, courageous individuals undergo rigorous academic and technological training, equipping them with the qualifications necessary for their future military careers. Following their time at the NDA, cadets proceed to pre-commissioning training at their respective service academies.

The NDA is renowned for cultivating exceptional military talent, many of whom excel as mountaineers, athletes, authors, artists, and even Olympic champions. The architectural beauty of the academy is noteworthy, reflecting the excellence of the Tri-Services institution. A prime example is the Sudan Block, which stands as a remarkable architectural achievement and an emblematic representation of the Academy. Its grand dome, constructed from Jodhpur stone, is particularly striking, especially when illuminated at night. Additionally, the 30-foot Ashoka Pillar, inspired by the one at Sarnath, and the NDA museum, which showcases historical memorabilia, archives, and artifacts, are significant attractions for visitors to the academy.

Access to the National Defence Academy is restricted to educational institutions and organized groups. To arrange a visit, it is necessary to obtain permission from the Brigadier Administration at least 15 days in advance. It is essential to note that guided tours are exclusively conducted on Sundays from 10 AM to 12:30 PM. A highlight for visitors is the Passing Out Parade, which occurs biannually, once in the last week of May and again in the last week of November. Attendees are encouraged to experience this event, as it provides a glimpse into life at the NDA.
