At a distance of 1 km from Kanyakumari Bus Station, Tsunami Memorial Park is a small park situated in Kanyakumari. It is one of the prominent places to visit as part of Kanyakumari tour.
The Tsunami Memorial Park serves as a tribute to the individuals who tragically perished during the catastrophic tsunami that struck Tamil Nadu on December 26, 2004. It is located along Beach Road, adjacent to the Bhagavathy Amman Temple, commonly known as Kumariamman Temple. The park features the Tsunami memorial alongside several other structures designed in a modern architectural style.
The memorial itself, crafted from steel, stands approximately 16 feet tall. It depicts two hands; one is depicted as holding back a wave from the ocean, while the other cradles a lamp symbolizing hope. Designed by B. Kanagraj, the Tsunami Memorial not only honors the countless lives lost in the 2004 disaster but also represents the resilience of humanity. It illustrates the capacity of individuals to reconstruct their lives even in the face of the most challenging circumstances.
