At a distance of 4 km from Cuttack Railway Station, Odisha State Maritime Museum is a museum located on the banks of River Mahanadi near Jobra. It is one of the prominent places to visit as part of Orissa packages.
Odisha State Maritime Museum came up in the old dilapidated complex of 'River Boat Construction and Repair Workshop' constructed during the British era. The workshop was renovated and converted into the present day Odisha State Maritime Museum in 2013. It was established to preserve and showcase the state's maritime traditions, including boat building, navigation techniques and the rich collection of maritime artifacts.The Museum is situated near the Barrage of Mahanadi at Jobra.
Spread over an area of more than 4 acres, the Odisha State Maritime Museum is first of its kind in the entire country. Featuring 10 galleries, the museum is an incredible mix of the old and new. The exhibits in the museum are displayed in galleries distinguished under maritime history, boat and ship building, monuments on Odisha coast, Jobra workshop, ritual and navigation. There is even a special category of displays that features a saw mill, a boat shop, boat repairing jetty, children activity room, library and a research center
There is also a 3D shows along with the aquarium section which contains a rich collection of the aquatic animals found in the sea water of Odisha.The museum regularly conducts painting competitions for children. It also has an open air auditorium with a sitting capacity of 250 people.
