At a distance of 14 Km from Kodaikanal Bus Stand, the Dolmen Circle is a prehistoric site situated at Adukkam and Pannaikadu villages near Kodaikanal. It is one of the famous places to visit as part of the Kodaikanal heritage tour.

There are more than 60 dolmen sites located in and around Kodaikanal, which feature archaeological remnants dating back to the Stone Age. This region is thought to have been inhabited by prehistoric humans who were also interred here. Archaeological excavations have uncovered evidence of ancient dwellings and burial sites in this area, reinforcing this hypothesis. Among these findings, dolmens and kistvaens provide valuable insights into the lifestyle and culture of the prehistoric populations that resided here during the Stone Age.

Dolmens are above-ground structures resembling boxes, typically consisting of a single stone slab supported by three stone pillars, elevated approximately 3 feet off the ground. It is believed that prehistoric humans utilized these dolmens as shelters and places to conceal their valuables. Artifacts such as stone tools, weapons, utensils, and brass and copper ornaments have been discovered in this region, indicating human presence as early as 5000 BC.

While many dolmens have suffered damage over the years and are no longer excavatable, two remarkable examples of these anthropological structures have endured and remain visible on the slopes of the Western Ghats. One is situated near the Ghat Road in Periyamkulam, while the other can be found in the village of Pannikadu. The kistvaens located near the dolmens are believed to have served as burial sites for the prehistoric inhabitants of the valley.
