At a distance of 1 km from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, RBI Monetary Museum or Reserve Bank of India Monetary Museum is a museum situated in Fort, Mumbai. It is one of the prominent museums to visit as part of Mumbai heritage packages.

Situated within the premises of the Reserve Bank of India, the RBI Monetary Museum was established in 2004 under the educational programme by the Reserve Bank of India and was inaugurated by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the then President of India. This museum holds the distinction of being the first in India dedicated to the fields of economic history and numismatics. The museum covers the evolution of money in India from the primitive barter system and the utilization of cowries to the advent of paper currency, coins, stock markets, and contemporary electronic transactions.

The museum has six distinct sections, each presenting a unique perspective on India's monetary evolution and the complexities of the financial sector. The museum houses a collection of 1,500 carefully curated artifacts, ranging from the foundational concepts of currency to the practicalities of modern banking, ensuring an enriching and educational experience. Among the exhibits are coins that date back to the 6th century BCE, originating from the Indus Valley, the Kushana Empire, the Gupta period, and the British Raj, as well as ancient paper currency from India, China, and Southeast Asia, alongside various financial instruments and interactive displays.

Every element of the museum is thoroughly explained through bilingual graphic panels in English and Hindi, promoting accessibility for all attendees. Furthermore, the museum incorporates an interactive screen for foreign exchange trading, featuring live updates on foreign trade, share prices, and commodities. This cutting-edge addition enables visitors to observe the real-time fluctuations in exchange rates, offering an intriguing insight into the intricacies of global finance.
