At a distance of 5.5 km from Bijapur Railway Station, the Jahan Begum Tomb is a mausoleum situated at Ainapur. Bijapur couple packages.
The Jahan Begum Tomb serves as the final resting place for Queen Jahan Begum, the spouse of Muhammad Adil Shah, the individual for whom the Gol Gumbaz was constructed. In the 17th century, she established a suburb outside the densely populated city of Bijapur and commissioned a mausoleum for herself, designed in a manner reminiscent of her husband's grand structure. This area was originally named Jahanama and is currently referred to as Ainapur. The tomb is perhaps the only surviving example of the residential quarters of the Adil Shah dynasty.
Although the tomb of Jahan Begum remains incomplete, it shares similarities in size and architectural style with the Gol Gumbaz, featuring four corner towers and a square layout encircled by a double arcade, with three arches on each side between the towers. Unlike the Gol Gumbaz, the four central facade arches are left open. Presently, only the lower levels of the four corner towers are intact. Several complete arches outline the elevated platform that supports the intricately carved cenotaph of the queen, accompanied by smaller cenotaphs. These cenotaphs, crafted from black granite, are exposed to the sky. Additionally, a mosque is located within the same compound, serving the local villagers.
Not far from the Jahan Begum Tomb lie the remnants of her garden palace. This single-storey edifice features stairways that lead to an open terrace. The ground floor still contains three spacious rooms adorned with arched windows and jaalis, arranged around a verandah. The palace exhibits an arched facade, akin to the Gagan Mahal in Vijayapura and the Sangeeth Mahal in Navraspur.
