About Abbey Falls
At a distance of 8 km from Madikeri Bus Station, Abbey Falls, or Abbi Falls is a wonderful waterfall situated amidst the mountains of Western Ghats in Coorg. It is one of the best waterfalls near Bangalore, and among the must-include places in Coorg tour packages.
Abbey Falls is one of the top tourist places to visit in Coorg. It is situated in the middle of private coffee plantations and spice estates. It is one of the best waterfalls in the Coorg region.
Height of Abbey Falls
Numerous small streams and abundant rainfall combine to form the Abbey Waterfalls. It cascades down the rocky slopes from a height of about 70 feet into a pool. This waterfall flows to unite with the River Cauvery. A hanging bridge has been built across the gorge here, from where the visitors can get a beautiful view of the falls. The sound of the waterfalls can be heard from the main road during the rainy season. A Kali Mata temple on the other side of the bridge is also not to be missed.
History of Abbey Falls
British called Abbey Waterfalls Jessy waterfalls in memory of Jessy, the daughter of Madikeri's first British Captain Chaplain. However, after the independence of India, the waterfalls came under the control of the Government of India, and the land was bought by Mr. Neravanda B. Nanaiah from the Government, who then transformed it from a natural forest to cultivated farmlands with plantations of coffee and various spices. The area has been private property since then and boasts a panoramic landscape.
Best Time to Visit Abbey Falls
The best time to visit the waterfall is during the monsoon when the waterfall is in a full gush. However, travellers must be careful of the slippery roads and leeches while visiting the waterfall in the monsoon. Post-monsoon is also an ideal time to visit the falls.

How to Reach Abbey Falls
Abbey Falls is around 8 km away from Madikeri. Cars can reach the entrance of the falls from where 10 minutes' walk through coffee plantations takes one to the waterfalls. The path leading to the waterfalls is filled with thick vegetation and offers a wonderful experience.
Swimming at Abbey Falls
It's not possible to get into the water here and any attempt is also dangerous.
