The term 'Chamoli' originates from the Sanskrit word 'chandramoli,' which translates to 'One who wears the moon on his head,' a reference to the Hindu deity Shiva. Located in the Garhwal Himalayan region, Chamoli is the second largest district in Uttarakhand, situated along the banks of the Alaknanda River. It shares its borders with several scenic districts, including Pithoragarh and Bageshwar to the east, Almora to the south, Rudraprayag to the west, and Uttarkashi to the southwest. To the north, it is adjacent to the Tibet region and is recognized as a captivating tourist destination, offering a wealth of religious sites as well as numerous opportunities for sightseeing and trekking.
