Pilgrimage
At a distance of 1.5 Kms from Mysore Railway Station & 1 Km from KSRTC Bus Station, St.Philomena's Cathedral is a famous pilgrimage centre constructed in 1936. The structure follows Neo Gothic style and its architecture was inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. This church was designed by the Reverend Rene Feuge. This is one of the top tourist places to visit in Mysore.
It is one of the largest Cathedrals in South Asia. Initially there was a small church in the location. When the capital of Mysore state was move from Srirangapatna to Mysore city in 1799, many British officers and soldiers came and settled down in Mysore. Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV laid the foundation of the new church in 1933.
The twin spires of the Cathedral are 175 feet in height and are seen distant places. The cathedral has a crypt that houses a beautiful statue of St. Philomena, a 3rd century saint from Greece.
An Annual festival is held on August 11th every year.
