At a distance of 4 Kms from Mysore Railway Station & 1.5 Kms from Mysore Zoo, the Karanji Mansion in Nazarbad Mohalla was constructed for the second princess of Mysore, Krishnajammanni. The Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar had two sons and three daughters. The sons lived in the Mysore Palace. For the three daughters he built mansions and named them after his daughter's. The princesses used these mansions after their marriage.
The Mansion was built in Indo-Saracenic Renaissance style of architecture like the other two mansions. It was built in 1902 on an area of 38 acres on an elevated place. The rooms of the mansion are elaborately craved and the gardens that surround them are carefully laid out. It became popular as Karanji Mansion because of its proximity to the Karanji Lake.
This mansion houses the Postal Training Institute of the Department of Posts since 1965. Apart from training its staff, it has set up a museum here depicting the Postal history of the country.
