GADDIGE / RAJA'S TOMBS

At a distance of 1.5 Kms from Madikeri Bus Station, Raja's Tombs (Gaddige) is important for both history lovers and nature lovers, you can get a commanding view of one part of Madikeri city from this place. It is one of the top sightseeing attractions in Coorg.

There are three structures in this complex. The monument was built in Indo-Sarcenic style in 1820. The tombs are in the style of Muslim architecture with domes in the center and turrets at the angles. Two main tombs, one of King Veera Rajendra and his wife, another of his brother Linga Rajendra are housed here. A Shiv linga is installed in the tomb. There are also the tombs of Raja's priest and that of two army commanders. The bravery of General Biddanda Bopu who fought Tipu Sultan has been recorded by Dodda Veerarajendra in an inscription.
