At a distance of 34 km from Mussoory, 7 km from Dhanaulti and 35 km from New Tehri, Surkanda Devi Temple is situated at Kaddukhal village near Kanatal on Chamba - Dhanaulti road in Tehri District.
Surkanda Devi temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati Devi. It is also a part of the popular Devi Darshan triangle that includes Chandrabadni and Kunjapuri. Perched at a height of about 10,000 feet, the Surkanda Devi Temple offers a 360 degree view of the Garhwal region of the Himalayas, the Dehradun valley along with snow-covered peaks.. The temple is surrounded by dense forest and offers picturesque beauty of the surrounding region.
It commands a beautiful view of Dehra Dun, Rishikesh, Chandrabadni, Pratapnagar and Chakrata. Flowers of varied kinds and indigenous herbs grown in abundance here and some of the beautiful birds of the western Himalayas are also found in the neighborhood. The Ganga Dussera festival is celebrated every year between May and June and attracts a large number of devotees.
Surkanda Devi temple demands about 2 km trek from the village of Kaddukhal. The trekking path is well paved and takes about 30 minutes one way. Tourists can also reach the temple by walking along an 8 km trek path amidst the forest from Dhanaulti.
