At a distance of 2.5 km from Yercaud Bus Stand and 3 km from Yercaud Lake, the Botanical Garden is situated on Lady's Seat road in Yercaud. Maintained by southern circle of Botanical Survey of India, Botanical Garden is one of the top attractions in Yercaud.
Housing various exotic species of flowers and plants, the Botanical Garden is a major places to visit in Yercaud. The Botanical Garden is divided in to different sections like foliage garden, topiary garden, bonsai garden, butterfly garden, herbal garden, rock garden, water garden and sensory garden. It is a must visit place for all nature lovers as one can come across the most beautiful, colorful and rare variety of plants.
The garden houses the Orchidarium and the green house. Spread across 18.4 hectares, the National Orchidarium is established in the year 1963. There are 3000 trees and 1800 shrubs grown in Orchidarium. It is the third largest Orchidarium in India and is one of two Orchidariums run by the Botanical Survey of India. The Orchidarium is home to about 30 endangered species of orchids. It has a large collection of native orchids. A rare tree Shevaroys Bombax which was reported on one of the private estates has also been identified and multiplied in this farm. The Green house is a superbly maintained scientific greenery cultivating area in the botanical garden.
Apart from orchids, there is also an amazing range of rare plants and flowers in the garden. Many endangered species of plants are also preserved here. Yercaud is also famous for the beautiful Kurinji flower that blooms once in every twelve years and the Botanical Garden houses plenty of these flowers along with lady's slipper orchid and vernonia shevaroyensis. It is one of the ideal places to gain knowledge about various species of plants.
